Jaeger-LeCoultre: Five watch collection from current collection

Posted by

Let’s play a game, let’s create a “five watches collection” from the current Jaeger-LeCoultre catalogue!

Rules are simple, you can only choose from watches featured in Jaeger-LeCoultre current catalogue. I will keep my choices within reasons, I will not select any of the watches which are marked with “Price on demand” on Jager-LeCoultre home page, only those which have an actual price stated to avoid ending up with five Tourbillons and minute Repeaters…

My first choice would of course be…

First watch, a sports watch: the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Memovox, reference 9038670.

Why? Because I love the Memovox and I love the Polaris! So, the alarm complication encased in a divers watch is hard for me to resist.

Based on the icon from the 1960’s, the mixture of vintage look, modern interpretation and technology creates a interesting mix.

Second watch, a high-end watch: the Duomètre Chronographe, reference 6012421 in pink gold.

The stunning dual barrel movement, the clear nod to the Jaeger-LeCoultre heritage and long tradition of making high-end pocket watch movements!

Personally, I was a bit surprised when the very first Duomètre was released, a chronograph. Jager-LeCoultre didn’t hava a inhouse chronograph movement for decades and to be honest, never were famous for their chronograph movements. A Perpetual Calendar, Moon Phases or a Minute Repeater would have been a more natural choice based on history, IMO.

But the Duomètre Chronographe really earned its place among the finer chronograph movements on the market.

Third watch, a under the radar dress watch: the Master Ultra Thin Moon reference 1363540 in white gold.

The mix of white gold case and grey sunburst dial makes this watch a subtle beauty!

You may wonder why I didn’t go for something more complicated like a perpetual calendar? For me this clean dial combined with the dark blue night sky and the silver moon is more beautiful. My taste often leans towards “less is more”.

Forth watch, adding a travel watch to the collection: Geophysic® Universal Time reference 8102520 in pink gold.

Here I hesitated between the stainless steel and the pink gold version, but in the end, the warmth of the pink gold won me over.

The WorldTime complication is such a romantic complication, to see the time all over the world in a glance, makes you dream of travelling far, to exotic places…

Fifth watch, no Jaeger-LeCoultre collection is complete without a Reverso: the Reverso Tribute Duoface reference 3988482 in stainless steel.

The blue sunburst dial of the Reverso Tribute Duoface is absolutely magnificent! Perfect to represent the Reverso in this five collection line-up.

And one of the benefits of the Duoface is that you actually get two watches in one! The white Guilloche dial on the back is not as eye catching as the blue but the charm and the beauty is there.

So why did I choose these five watches for my “five watches collection” from the current Jaeger-LeCoultre catalogue?

All five are beautifully crafted Jaeger-LeCoultre watches which all are very much to my taste, both visually and by complications.

But more important, I think this group of watches, in a great way represent what Jaeger-LeCoultre is today and the heritage they are built on.

Three of the five watches have names given by original watches from the past, but the fact is that all five of them have elements, Jaeger-LeCoultre DNA originating long before the 21st century!
