The other day I attended a small but very nice GTG. One of the watches I had the chance to see was the Omega Speedmaster – First Omega In Space.
The First Omega In Space edition was released in honour of the Mercury Atlas 8 mission in October of 1962.
Introduced in 2012, based on the 2998 that the astronaut Wally Schirra wore.
This was the first time I had the chance to see this watch in the metal. Must say that I like it a lot!
The vintage look from the 2998 is there. The straight lugs, the moderate size, just under 40 mm in diameter, the Alpha hands…
Yes, a lot of appealing details for a vintage guy…
Modern with a vintage feel – inside is the manual movement, Calibre 1861. Not on display, closed case back with the “THE FIRST WATCH ON THE MOON – OCTOBER 3, 1962” and the classic Omega Seahorse.
On the wrist, sporty, still elegant. Yes, a cool mix of vintage and modern!
Big thank you to the owner for letting me play with this beauty!
