Jaeger-LeCoultre 9041 Étrier on a Hermès strap

Posted by

Jaeger-LeCoultre reference 9041 Étrier I already presented here, a watch belonging to my wife’s collection…

Even if, on several occasions I have tried to tell her that this watch name is Étrier she continue to call it her Hermès watch… Guess its just to taunt me… But now she took it one step further…

And ordered a “Hermès orange” strap for her Étrier…

That Hermès sold Jaeger-LeCoultre watches in their department stores is a quite well-known fact, so far I have found documents of this during the period 1931 – 1949. Not sure if this partnership continued into the 1950’s and 1960’s…

Here is an ad from the 5th of December 1931 – Hermès advertising watches before Christmas, hoping people would chose to go for “hard” packages under the tree…

On the left the “Duoplan” which we all know. On the right is a rectangular watch which is called “Hermès”, so most likely Hermès also made or bought watches which they labelled Hermès:

Here is an early 1930’s Jaeger-LeCoultre catalogue featuring the same Duoplan model as in the advertisement above, top right:

Hermès did not exclusively sell Jaeger-LeCoultre watches or their own labelled watches, similar to other well-known department stores, Hermès sold several brands which at the time was considered high-end brands.

Below is another example of Hermès advertisement, 30th of March 1935, featuring the “Ermeto” Movado and several Jaeger-LeCoultre models:

There is even one Jaeger-LeCoultre model called “Hermès”, but it is not the Étrier…

If it makes her happy, fine – she can call her watch Hermès…

But within the watch collectors community I would prefer the Étrier name to be used…

I will not repeat my arguments, you can read more about the Étrier reference 9041 and the name Hermès here – Jaeger-LeCoultre 9041 Étrier

Either way – I must admit it do look good on a “Hermès orange” strap!

Once I have had the chance to scan some more of my documents I will return to the Hermès topic – stay tuned!
