To be able to do what I do – I collect watches… I try to live by a few simple rules as a guideline for all my actions when it comes to watches…
Here is one which I find very important…
Rule #3: Patience is a virtue
Some may think that is a waste of time… Others may think correct, and then waste time…
As a collector on a budget, you may not always be able to just “go” for what you really want, when ever you want it.
With patience you may reach what at the moment is out of reach…
This may be hard to explain so I will use a real case as an example…
Back in 2009 I really wanted a Jaeger-LeCoultre E 871 Memovox. One of these Funky 70’s with a dial shaped as an old TV screen – super cool!

In 2010 I still haven’t found my E 871, very few for sale and all over my budget. Then I found one…
Fair price which fitted into my budget, but with an issue, the seconds hand was not blue. Correct type of hand but in steel…
Contacted the seller, we made a deal and the watch were mine.

I started to wear the watch but the steel seconds hand bothered me…

So I started to hunt for the blue seconds hand… In 2012 I found one! Only to be lost by the postal service…
Then in 2018 I finally were able to put a blue seconds hand on my watch.

Rule #3: Patience is a virtue
8 years, three months. Now I can finally wear the E 871 without feeling an itch…
This rule mostly apply to vintage watches. For modern watches it’s most about how much are you ready to pay… Of Course, you could say that you may need patience to save up the amount needed…
But on the vintage side, there are times when not even a larger budget can solve your problem… What you want just can’t be found…
All you can do is to have patience and wait until the correct part, strap, box or whatever needed shows up!
Rule #3 very often apply when trying to achieve Rule #4…
Stay tuned, more rules to come…
