Eweco Chronograph – Snail dial

Posted by

If someone would say manual chronograph from late 1930’s or early 1940’s with “Snail dial”, excellent chocolate patina, large stainless steel case – 36 mm in diameter…

Many of you would think “how many kidneys would that cost”…?

The answer is…

None!

Yes, we all know that these big chronograph’s with movements like the Omega Calibre 33.3 or Longines 13ZN have reached the levels above the clouds…

One could only dream of having one or T.W.O like these shown in this scan. Italian booklet from 1936, referring to the Olympic Games held in Berlin that year.

Omega booklet – chronogrph’s Calibre 33.3

But there are still some quite nice early wrist watch chronographs to be found at a much more human price level…

Like this Eweco Chronograph with “Snail dial”:

Eweco chronograph – Snail dial

A brand and a watch I know very little about and even less is to be found online…

Inside is a Landeron movement, either Calibre 47 or 48.

There are other examples of this chronograph online, where they claim Landeron 47, but in the same time some sources indicates the Landeron 47 is a three button chronograph, third being the crown to be pushed to reset.

This watch have start on upper pusher, stop and reset on lower pusher.

Apparently, the Landeron 47 were only produced for one year, 1937, before it got replaced by the Landeron 48, so it might be that some try to “hype” their watch by claiming it to be Landeron 47 movement…

Or there were a two pusher version of the movement as well…? Don’t ask me – I am a “no chronograph guy”…

Either way, this one landed in my box due to it’s stunning patina and the beautiful “Snail dial”!

Eweco chronograph – Landeron 47 or 48?

One day I will open this watch and look closer and of course report about what I find – stay tuned.
