Shot of the day: Jaeger-LeCoultre Geophysic E 168 in Pink Gold

During the 1940’s and the 1950’s there were many Anitmagentic or Amagnetic watches. Almost all brands made them.

In the 1960’s antimagnetic were more of a standard, i.e. all watches had some antimagnetic protection, but maybe not to a level as those who were specially made to withstand high ratings of Gauss.

The “big five” were introduced during the mid and later part of the 1950’s: 1954 IWC 666 Ingenieur, 1956 Rolex 6451 Milgauss, 1957 Omega 2914 Railmaster, 1958 Patek Philippe 3417 Amagnetic… and Jaeger-LeCoultre E 168 Geophysic!

Here the Jaeger-LeCoultre E 168 Geophysic in pink gold:

Jaeger-LeCoultre E 168 Geophysic – perfect blend of tool and simple beauty

After the warm summer, the autumn is here and you start to reflect over things…

Each of these five is an icon of their brand and highly sought after by collectors. It’s hard to put the finger on what make these so desirable…

My take is that it is the perfect mix of tool – a watch with a specific purpose and simple beauty – elegance without effort. No extravagance, nothing but the essential…

Three of these five looks more like dress watches, T.W.O of them looks more like tool watches…

I guess the recipe for making the prefect Antimagnetic watch is just on the border… And it’s pure coincidence on which side you end up…

If one would add one more watch to the “big once” in this category, my choice would be the 1961 Eberhard 11538 Scientigraf. Another watch which looks more like a tool than a dress watch…

Problem with all these watches, regardless of which one is that they all are extremely hard to find in good original condition…

Yes, winter is coming… Stay tuned, keep warm!
