Many brands play the “Tribute Game” or the “Re-edition Game”… But not many do it all that well…
Often a new version of an old icon divide the fans… Some love the new interpretation, some hate it…
Very few exceptions to this rule…
One observation I made is that there is one brand who made T.W.O re-editions which didn’t split the fans into love or hate camps…
My perception is that most collectors are positive towards the Vulcain Nautical Cricket re-editions. Both the 1960’s version and the 1970’s version!
Here is my Vulcain 1970 Nautical Cricket Limited Edition that was released in 2013:

My take on this is that
A) there are too few original watches around to create a split verdict.
B) they are really well-made, both in look, feel and from a technical point of view.
The 1970’s version is a Limited Edition of 300 pieces. The feel on the wrist is extremely solid, including the waterproof leather strap!
This is one of my go-to watches when on beach vacation…

Waterproof down to 30 ATM / 300 meters, which you dare to test! A modern watch which is care free but still gives me the vintage feel…
If only Vulcain would have stopped at one version of each, then the re-editions would be as mythical as the originals!
Historically Vulcain were a strong competitor to Jaeger-LeCoultre in the wrist alarm segment…
I will address this in another post… Stay tuned…
