To be able to do what I do – I collect watches… I try to live by a few simple rules as a guideline for all my actions when it comes to watches…
Here is another one of my rules…
Rule #5: Do your own homework.
It’s a straight forward and very simple rule. In theory…
In reality, it can be very hard to find or verify information about a specific watch or a specific detail of a watch!
It’s easy to believe whatever others tells you about a watch is true. The question is how well is the fact confirmed or documented?
We all know how to “Goggle”… But on the Internet there are more pages about watches than any of us could read in a lifetime, even if we tried!
Often you find the same information at several sources, so it must be true? Problem is that in many cases all the sources base their information on the same original source without questioning its credibility.
To avoid buying a incorrect watch I try to cross reference all information about a watch before I go for it…
Also, consider the source. Who is the source? A dealer who have this watch for sale? Someone who just bought the watch and want to ensure themselves of having made a good buy? Or is it a grumpy old guy who want to find out more about his watches regardless of what information he finds…?
Old documents are a great source of information, not always 100% correct, but most of the times it gives you guidance in the right direction.

By combining information from serval sources and documents you often come closer to the truth…
In the end, you are the one buying the watch and need to take the leap of faith… That leap is less scary if you do your own homework – before you buy the watch!
