Yesterday I got a reminder of that Jaeger-LeCoultre used to make air-plane clocks…
That in turn reminded me that I still have to present one of Jaeger-LeCoultre Air Force watches and that I have a stack of photos from the Jaeger Automobile – Aviation – Horlogerie manufacture to scan…
These photos are from the Jaeger manufacture sometime between 1954 – 1958, the Automobile – Aviation – Horlogerie part of Jaeger-LeCoultre.

Not only did Jaeger make air-plane clocks and instruments, Jaeger-LeCoultre made some Air Force watches as well…
Like for the British Royal Air Force: Jaeger-LeCoultre reference E 161 Mark 11.

Yes, Jaeger made basically all type of mechanical instruments for automobiles and air-planes…

Here are a few examples –

Please note that there is a difference between the Jaeger-LeCoultre manufacture and the Jaeger manufacture.
The Jaeger-LeCoultre manufacture is the one in Le Sentier-Vallée de Joux, most famous for their wrist watches and wrist watch movements.
While there were several Jaeger locations which made what in movement specifications often is refereed to as “Grosse Horlogerie” (movements 40+ mm).
Here is a scan from a 30 of April, 1932 illustrating several Jaeger locations. I think these photos might be from the Levallois-Seine.

Among the photos is this shot of four Jet Fighters – possible the Dassault Mystère IV which would align with the time line. Hard to tell from this photo but based on the silhouette and what looks to be French insignia on the wings.

Which brings me back to the E 161 Mark 11…

Mine is the RAF version from the 1948 batch.

I should scan all the photos and get my air-plane clocks to share with you here… Stay tuned…
As said many times, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Universe is both wide and deep… Please join me in my journey through it all!
