Personally I am not a big fan of “movie editions” where a watch is made specially for a fiction character… Or super hero name printed on the dial…
But this year one such watch really got my attention – the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Kingsman Knife Limited Edition!
This watch really took me by surprise, did not see this one coming…
To see Jaeger-LeCoultre watches in movies is nothing new – for example, both Pierce Brosnan in the Thomas Crown Affair and Christian Bale in the Dark Knight was wearing the Reverso…
But a watch made specially for a movie like this Master Ultra Thin Kingsman Knife is less common. Other brands, yes – but not Jaeger-LeCoultre…
What surprised me even more was the quite bold, yet perfectly matched design for the Kingsman character – the strong DNA from an era long gone… The Pocket Watch case and crown!
A super elegant pink gold creation, nothing flashy, yet with the little extra for the one that takes their time to look closer…

Only T.W.O hands, hours and minutes, no seconds and a Ultra Thin case – this combination often ends up a bit boring in my opinion. Many times the dial and the case both becomes rather sterile for the sake of keeping the watch classic elegant and thin.
This watch I have not see in real, but from photos, this watch looks anything but boring!
The layout of the dial with the inner circle line and the heated blue leaf hands… The step bezel and the elegant slender lugs… And the crown!
Ah, the crown is the “crown” of this design – located at twelve like a Pocket Watch, still with the protective bow kept!

Yes, I find this a very interesting watch – the strong DNA from the past has been applied very tastefully on a modern wrist watch.
The inspiration comes from this ultra-thin “Couteau” pocket watch from 1907, which belongs to the Jaeger-LeCoultre Heritage Gallery. Couteau is French for knife – thin as a blade.

Inside the Master Ultra Thin Kingsman Knife is the Calibre 849, only 1.85 mm thick which allows the case to be 4.25 mm thin!

With a diameter of 40 mm, it is hitting my sweet spot and based on the shape of the lugs, I am guessing – very comfortable!
This picture clearly shows how the lugs are shaped and located and the very cool detail of the crown bow cutting through the strap!

Limited Edition of 100 pieces – I really like the fact that Jaeger-LeCoultre have reduced the numbers made of their limited editions. It doesn’t really feel like a limited edition when the model is made in 12007 pieces…
As this watch is exclusively sold through Mr Porter until September 6 and after that only in selected boutiques, I fear that chances for me to see this watch in real are “thin”…
Maybe I could convince a local goldsmith to help me making some lugs for one of my pocket watches..?

Yes, the Master Ultra Thin Kingsman Knife is a limited edition very much in my taste!

Would love to see more of these kind of bold yet classic looking designs from La Grande Maison going forward!
