Time has come to have a look at the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Automatic, reference 9008471.
Another new Polaris which is not based on the original Memovox but inspired by…
Earlier we looked at the Polaris Date Limited Edition, the Polaris Chronograph and the Polaris Memovox.
As we know, the original Polaris only came in one version. Now with the new Polaris line, we see several new “inspired of” creations…
This time I thought I would give you my thoughts on the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Automatic – reference 9008471.

I will be blunt and come right out and say it, this is not a watch for me.
But, that is based on the fact that I already have four Polaris in my watch box… T.W.O original Polaris and two Tribute To Polaris – so I am biased!
That said, I still think its a great looking watch! All Polaris are…
I see this Polaris Automatic as an “entry level” Polaris, a Polaris for someone who not already have one…
Stripp the Polaris Memovox of the Memovox and the Date, reduce it one millimeter in diameter and…
You get the Polaris Automatic, 41 mm in diameter, stainless steel watch with an inner rotating bezel.
The case shape follows the other Polaris’ in the new line with the characteristic bevelled lugs, black dial which in many lights comes off as grey. Same, stronger, modern hands and the typical Polaris numbers and index.

A very nice high quality leather strap with fast option spring bars, if only it would be more tapered at the ends…
Inside is the Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 898E/1. If you read my thoughts on the Rendez-Vous Night and Day Medium, you recognise that it is the same base movement, Calibre 898.
For the 34 mm Rendez-Vous I think the movement is perfect! Here, the same Calibre looks a bit lost…
Even if the movement is beautifully decoration, the opening in the case back looks small… There is no Memovox but a closed case back with 16 holes and a divers helmet would have been more attractive to me…

This is all my thoughts while looking into details of this watch. Once on the wrist, it gains my liking again…
It is a great looking watch at a good price point!
The “bang for the buck” ratio is very high compared with many other brands and what they offer as entry level in the sportier segment.

If I didn’t have any Polaris in my watch box, this would be a watch to consider… as my first Polaris!
As always, a big thank you to my local Jaeger-LeCoultre AD Nymans Ur for letting me handle this watch!
